While my respect for Randine grew—especially in the beautiful, kind, and expansive ways she responded to us in the forum and during office hours—I also deeply needed the reflective aspect of the course. I do hope acupuncturists and other healers take the time now to participate in this mentorship so they can be better prepared for death—for themselves, their loved ones, and their patients. It expands consciousness and love.
Susan Gillette
This mentorship has impacted my clinical practice through the ease with which I can now ask these same in-depth questions of my patients. I can fully and completely support them, having asked myself these same questions. The experience of being able to share with others has had a huge impact on me. I feel, with confidence, that I am not alone in my journey.
Dona McGlennen
I recommend any of Randine’s courses to other practitioners. What I have learned from Randine over many years—whether through her fertility courses or Daoist death medicine courses—is how to be your authentic self. This mentorship really promotes practitioners being their authentic selves, as well as supporting patients and their loved ones in doing the same. After all, when we pass, we are all we have—our True Self.

I'm really interested, but don't know if I will be able to join this offering of the Mentorship, so I'm wondering if you think you will possibly offer the mentorship in this form again after this year?
There is no guarantee that we will, especially in a world that is subject to so much upheaval, but our hope would be that we will offer the mentorship again after this year. We suggest you don’t delay as we cannot tell you what a year from now will allow for planning.
Is the Daoist Death Medicine course only suitable for Chinese Medicine practitioners?
While we do weave acupuncture points into most modules, the mentorship is not designed exclusively for acupuncturists. Although many participants are trained in Chinese medicine, we have also had end-of-life doulas, nurses, caregivers and interested laypeople join us and find the material deeply applicable to their lives.
The acupoint content comprises less than 10% of the program and is presented in an accessible, practical way. The emphasis is not on needling technique, but on understanding the energetic principles behind the points and how they can support emotional, spiritual, and transitional processes at the end of life. In fact, needles are often not the most appropriate tool in bedside settings, as the skin can become fragile and comfort is paramount.
For this reason, we focus primarily on gentle, non-invasive methods such as acupressure, essential oil application, moxibustion, and simple touch techniques that can be safely and meaningfully offered. These approaches integrate beautifully with therapeutic and psychosocial care. In our first module, for example, we introduced only one acupoint to illustrate its deeper symbolic meaning. Later in the program—particularly in the module devoted to bedside support during active dying—we offer more practical tools for relieving pain and easing anxiety.
At its core, the mentorship is about shifting paradigms, cultivating presence, refining inner clarity, and learning how to accompany others through the dying process with steadiness and compassion within a Daoist framework. The Chinese medical lens deepens the experience, but prior training is not required in order to benefit from it.
